Asset Based Community Development

Dear SMBI Community Members

At last week’s wellbeing hub meeting on Russell Island, people suggested that there were a lot of great aspects of the islands (including highly skilled ‘go to’ people, services, parks and halls) that haven’t really been mapped out. Creating a record of these people, places and services could help community members to connect with each other, find the help they need, and advocate for change (e.g., making public halls more affordable and accessible).

Dee Brooks will be facilitating some training about this mapping process (Asset Based Community Development) from 9.30am to 4.30pm, Tuesday 23rd July at the West End Croquet Club, 91 Cordelia Street, South Brisbane. You can find out about this workshop via the following link: https://www.afnconference.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Hosting-Community-AFN-2019.pdf

Relationships Australia Queensland would like to fund a few SMBI Community Members to attend this training.

We are looking for people who:
1. Have demonstrated their commitment to SMBI by attending community meetings and events (or similar).
2. Have good listening skills, literacy skills (e.g., writing and spelling), and leadership/group facilitation skills.
3. Are able to give back to the SMBI community by helping with a community asset mapping process free of charge.
4. Are able to attend this training in West End (South Brisbane) on the 23rd July, including organising their own transport to and from the venue (this could include carpooling with others who are going to this event).

Please send a brief expression of interest (maximum of one page) to Connie Allen (callen@raq.org.au) by 4pm Friday 19th July, if you would like to apply for this opportunity. You can also contact me by email (callen@raq.org.au) or telephone 0448 168 943 for more information.

Best wishes
Connie
