Sudden Death on Russell Island

Sudden Death on Russell Island

It was reported to me yesterday that Wildlife carer Sharon Keegan had been found dead at her home on Thursday 6/6/19.

Helen Stanek gave me a call on Friday to let me know. There are, at this time, no suspicious circumstances and the matter is with the coroner as is usual in these circumstances.

Sharon was an experienced wildlife carer and those of us who are on face book would have seen her postings about the wildlife on Russell.

Sharon also kindly provided a column for my DOTS paper every edition, without fail – always an informative read. For that if nothing else she will be missed.

Personally, I have no idea who will fill her shoes now.

I delayed making this announcement until the family had been contacted. They have now visited the Island and will be making arrangements about the wildlife at Sharon’s home.
