Dr. Tom Baster on Weinam Creek meeting
I invited both Andrew and Tom to make a written commentary on the Weinam Ck. meeting. I have tried to contact Green’s Emerald Moon as well, but to no avail – I’ll keep trying.
It was a pleasure to be able to attend the meeting at Nev Stafford park on the 10th March both as the ALP candidate for Bowman and as a concerned member of the community. The message I received loud and clear was that the members of the Southern Morton Bay Islands and the local residents felt there had been inadequate consultations about the siting, scale and visual impact of the proposed carpark building and that alternative solutions had not been thoroughly explored. There was general agreement that the pressure on parking was only going to increase with the steady increase in the population of the Southern Morton Bay Islands over the medium term and several speakers suggested a bridge as a better idea rather than developing the Weinam Creek area.
Having visited and stayed on Russell Island I am aware of lots of community concerns but the prime Federal issue is that regarding phone and internet. Lack of decent internet and mobile phone reception can have dire consequences in medical and other emergencies let alone in trying to run a business. If I am elected as your federal representative I will be engaged on matters like this affecting the SMBI and fight for better outcomes.
