WORLD PREMIERE, MACLEAY PROGRESS HALL!!

WORLD PREMIERE, MACLEAY PROGRESS HALL!!

Macleay Progress Association presents Perchance Players production of  ‘Bonnet for Eliza’, an original play written by Margaret Dakin. Created from historical facts of the life of Eliza Davis, a typical Irish convict transported to Tasmania where, over a period of fifty years, we learn what life was like for those unfortunate souls.

But it’s not all misery & injustice. Each makes the best of what’s offered, gradually improving their skills & life-style, with hearty (saucy) sea-shanties, love-songs & laments colouring the dialogue throughout. Musical Director Vicky MacDonald has written the score, bringing Margaret’s lyrics to life. The play is directed by Barbara Collier, a highly respected Director in the Redlands, having been involved with many of the AMDRAM groups in the area as actor & director.
The actors fleshing out the characters are not only from our islands. We are delighted to have several  mainland actors joining us in this production which would not be otherwise possible.
Come along & involve yourself in the lives of the kind of people that became the backbone of the Australia we know today; maybe some of them were your ancestors. Performance dates are Saturday 23rd March 7.30pm and Sunday 24th March 2.30pm at M.I. Progress Hall. Tickets are $15, with drinks & light snacks available for purchase. Repeat performances will be staged at Redlands Museum Saturday 4th May and Sunday 5th May, $20 entry,  with complimentary drink at the evening show and Devonshire Tea at the matinee. Ring 0433 333 494 for info.
