Macleay Island Community Library News (November & December)

Macleay Island Community Library News (November & December)

Patricia Cation (Left), a former resident of Macleay Island and previous Library volunteer, has donated two of her detective novels to the Library – “Between Friends” and “Free Fall”.   These are now available to read.  Patricia’s books and those of other local authors are available to purchase from the Post Office and would make a great Christmas gift.

The Library has gift wrapped bottles of macadamia nuts, macadamia oil and macadamia products which would make someone very happy at Christmas.

With the School Holidays imminent, please remember that the Library has a large range of books for young people.  There are Easy Readers and Junior and Young adult fiction and non-fiction books.   There is also a range of DVDs and CDs suitable for our younger borrowers.  Young Macleay Islanders can join the Library allowing them to borrow free of charge on the days when the Library is open

Our adult readers will be pleased to know that we have purchased a number of recently published books of the following popular authors eg:   Michael Connelly, Lee Child and Jo Nesbo:

Along with three well known Australian writers – Leane Moriarity, Belinda Alexander and Jane Harper in time for the Christmas borrowing.

Our DVD shelves are just about full with every genera of films – free to borrow.

It has been a very successful year for the Macleay Island Library.  The library now has about 11000 items on our shelves.  The Library volunteers thank all the people who donated good quality books, CDs and DVDs during the year.

Fund raising by the Library Volunteers is vital and we especially thank those who supported us by buying macadamia nuts and products.  Also to those who donated to our Book and Plant Sale at the beginning of the year, it netted us close to $2000 which we have spent on new shelving, furniture and books.  Our next sale will be in April next year.  To all those ‘green thumbs’ who hate to throw away plants – pot them up and donate them to our next sale.

The Library is situated beside the Macleay Island Progress Association Hall in Russell Street.   It is Free to Join and Borrow for all SMBI residents.
