Bay Island Medical Centre closes it’s doors
In a shock announcement Bay Islands Medical Centre has closed it’s doors. A series of concerned residents have been venting their concerns on several Facebook groups.
The first comment set the theme:
“Does anyone know of a good doctor? I moved to Russell about 18 months ago and went to Medicross but wasn’t happy there as the doctor I saw wasn’t happy if I asked questions. It was always, “We can talk about that at your next appointment”. I changed over to Macleay Medical and have seen 3 different locums in as many months. I now find out they are closing until they can find a new permanent doctor. Are there no good old fashioned doctors left?”
Comments then proceeded to fly thick and fast, both for and against the concerning news:
“Go to the doctors on Russell island they both are great doctors and don’t try to push you through quickly
” I wouldnt go anywhere near the Russell Island doctors if you want reasonable health care. Far too risky especially” (name withheld – Ed)
“is unfit to treat humans I would stay well clear of him he’s better of getting a job in a slaughter house” and finally, a completely differing opinion:
“is fantastic…best doctor ive had so im shocked to hear different”
As you can see, debate has become increasingly heated and polarised. A shame, really, as so many have benefited from a new establishment for the Islands.
I have spoken with the owner of the Medical Centre, George, and await his return call. However, in conversation with both George and his charming wife, Sophie, I was informed that the practice will indeed be closed as of the 19th October.
Fortunately, we have another Medical Service on both Macleay and Russell, namely Bay Islands Medical Service. BIMS is located on Russell Tce, just a couple of hundred metres down the road, past Pub Paradise and next to “The Professionals” Real Estate.
More news as it comes to hand over the next 48 hours, I hope.
