Tragic death on the waterbus
No bad news, just some more information.
I was coming back from the mainland – actually, no, I was heading over (got to get things right), and was speaking with a deckie (to remains anonymous), he was the guy in duty at the time.
The tragedy actually occurred at the Weinam Creek pontoon. This was while the ferry was boarding. The gentleman had just boarded, with a heavy trolley, fully stacked and was being, or had just bee helped by a member of the public when he collapsed down to the floor.
The deckie immediately administered CPR and used the defibrillator. Triple Zero was called. However, there were already ambulances at the parking bay at the terminal. Ambos were on the scene within three minutes and took over. Sadly, nothing could be done to save his life.
This afternoon at approximately 6pm an elderly gentleman collapsed. Ferry staff acted quickly and professionally, administering CPR on the boat and driving directly for the mainland, where there were ambulances and paramedics waiting. Sadly the efforts of all involved were to no avail.
Also unfortunately, while facebook has performed well by keeping people informed, the victim was named by some thoughtless persons, shame.
I shall not follow that example.
