Break and enter charges, Macleay Island. Child Safety assisted by Russell Island police

Break and enter charges, Macleay Island. Child Safety assisted by Russell Island police.

This report is in two parts. Firstly the official police notice, below.
Secondly, information I have been able to glean from either police or others.

On March 15, two local businesses on Macleay Island were the victims of break and enter.
On March 21, a local residence on Lonicera Street was the victim of a break and enter.

Bayside Property Crime Unit and Macleay Island Police attended a residence on Macleay Island and located two men who were taken into custody.
A 31-year-old Macleay Island man has been charged with one count of Enter and Commit, one count of Burglary, one count of wilful damage, one count of stealing and one count of fraud.

The man was remanded in custody to appear on April 19 before the Cleveland Magistrates Court.

The other male, a 20-year-old from Macleay Island, has been charged with one count of Burglary and is due to appear on April 26 before the Cleveland Magistrates Court.

In conversation with Macleay Police, it was suggested that one of the business might have been the Golf Club.

After calling the Club and speaking with a committee member, I can confirm it was the Golf Club, the Glass door had been smashed and the “Tips” jar stolen. This is money given to the staff by club patrons. So this person has stolen from fellow islanders.

The other matters is that of a heavy Police activity on Russell at the moment (approx lunchtime 24/3).

In answer to my questions put to the Police on Russell, I was told that while they are very constrained on what they can say, however:

“Police were called to assist Child Safety”

There is not connection between the arrests and this activity today.
