Australia Day – Redlands to honour local heroes

The real heroes of the Redlands will be celebrated on Tuesday 23 January 2018 at the annual Redland City Australia Day Awards at the Alexandra Hills Hotel Function Centre.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the awards were a fitting way of thanking those in the community who continually went “above and beyond” to make the city a better place.

“The Redlands is blessed to have so many caring and generous people who work selflessly to help others, as well those who excel in their chosen fields and are great role models for others,’’ Cr Williams said.

“Our awards night will celebrate some truly remarkable individuals whose work for our community is quite outstanding.”

Cr Williams said the importance of Redland City’s traditional heritage would be highlighted by the addition of a Reconciliation Award this year.

This year Redland City Council has received 48 nominations across nine categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Local Hero Award
  • Community Organisation Award
  • Cultural Award
  • Environment and Sustainability Award
  • Sports Award
  • Reconciliation Award
