Redlands to celebrate Queensland Women’s Week

Women and girls in the Redlands are gearing up to celebrate Queensland Women’s Week 2018, which runs from 3-11 March 2018.

Local member for Redlands Kim Richards said she was thrilled to announce the Redlands Centre for Women had received a grant to help them mark the important week and celebrate local women and girls.

“This funding will be used to support the Centre’s annual International Women’s Day High tea, where guest speaker Mia Freedman will address the importance of a healthy work/life balance,” she said.

The event will also showcase the Centre’s work and purpose to educate, empower and connect women in the Redlands.

This year marks the third annual Queensland Women’s Week, which also takes in International Women’s Day on 8 March.

“This is a time to really celebrate the achievements of women and girls here in our community, and to all commit to doing our bit to improve women’s health and wellbeing,” Ms Richards said.

“The celebrations here in the Redlands will help highlight the achievements of local women and girls and will further encourage them to take an active role in improving their own health and wellbeing.

“Last year we saw Queenslanders right around the state come together to recognise the extraordinary contribution women make to our great state, and this has continued again this year with more than 190 organisations applying for the Queensland Women’s Week grants.”

More than $150,000 in grants were shared across the state.

Queensland Women’s Week is being run through a partnership between the Queensland Government and YWCA Queensland. The Queensland Women’s Week website (www.qld.gov.au/womensweek) contains a calendar of events, and will be expanded to include a range of promotional resources for order or download.  People are urged to check back regularly as the calendar will keep updating and growing right up until the week.
